assalamu’alaikum wr. wb.
long time no see! it’s been a year from my latest article. i’m sorry for that. so many things must be done last year. i hope that this weblog is still useful for all of you. thanks for some of my friends who wrote their article there. in this article, i would like to start sharing about our family trip last year to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. check it out!
“And when you have finished praying, then you may disperse all over the world and seek of Allah’s bounty, and remember Allah much, that you may be successful.” – Al Jumuah : 10. that verse of the Quran means so much for us. we got our first ever overseas flight on friday afternoon.
once in early 2024, Maya told me that her research had been accepted for presentation in Kuala Lumpur. at that time, we did not have passports. after some considerations, we decided to go as three. thanks to OIA UGM, as alumni, me and my family was able to get our passports there. Malaysia is a visa-free country for Indonesian citizens, so just the passport is enough.
direct flights from Yogyakarta International Airport (IATA: YIA, ICAO: WAHI) to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (IATA: KUL, ICAO: WMKK) are only served by Air Asia and Malaysia Airlines, and the only one who serves daily flight is Air Asia. we booked the tickets after we got our passports number. we also booked an apartment for our KL 5 days visit.
this is our first ever overseas flight, so we read some instructions about how to prepare for it. the flight schedule was at 17.30, so we calculated that we must arrived at the airport 3 hours before it. we started our trip from Srandakan right after jumuah praying to anticipated various uncertainties, as we have a trip with a 5-year old son and we carried checked baggage.
when we arrived at the airport, the check in counter was not yet opened. after some minutes waiting, we got ourselves in queue for check in. at that time i just found out that that KTP is not a mandatory, but we have to show our passports. that was no problem since we have prepared our passports.
after we got our printed tickets, we walked to the waiting room. our security checks were smooth as we didn’t bring any prohibited things. we need to wait a few hours before the international gate opens. before the immigr ation counter, we just realized that we must empty all of our bottles there (yes, 100 ml is allowed, but i prefer to made it empty, just in case).
after a long queue at the immigration counter, we forgot to refill our bottles again and directly walked to the Air Asia’s Airbus A320. it was a lesson for sure because it would be 2,5-hour flight without drinking unless i buy one in the plane. in fact, i usually refill my drink bottle at the airport even it’s not empty.
it was a memorable flight for sure. Alfa sat on the window seat so he could see the view outside clearly, especially since our flight coincided with sunset time and the sky was clear. Alfa had also had dinner right before boarding time, so he was already full. so, the absence of in-flight-entertainment was not a problem for us during this 2,5-hour flight.
the sky turned dark as our plane heading north. the view outside also became limited. since Alfa didn’t take a nap that afternoon, he fell asleep for the rest of the flight. he had just woken up as our Air Asia plane began to descend and prepare to land.
at 9 pm Malaysian time (8 pm West-Indonesian time), our plane landed safely. we followed the arrival procedure and Maya bought TuneTalk for her internet data in Malaysia for 7 days while i used 100GB Indosat data roaming for 100K before we queued at the immigration counter. even though the queue was long, everything went smoothly.
finally Malaysia! travel story in Malaysia will be written here! hopefully i have more time to write here again! 😀
wassalamu’alaikum wr. wb.
